First mules jumped

Got 5 mules jumped tonight, I mixed 2 nests of eggs up that were due at the same time as 3 were full in one and 2 in the other so I'm not too sure which hen these are off. One of the two hens is back on full eggs due tomorrow so I'll hopefully see soon if the marked ones are off her or the hen that reared these.

Class knipper. Bit of advice mate I’ve got 3 pairs cock goldie and canary hens, they have been treated for parasites I’m big on that. They get mixed Canary and a britches finch mix. Also there egg food is soak sead petti poa peas and broccolii with ce de egg on top of that as much like food as I can get, they all get a finger bowl of nager every other day. Avi gold tonic a couple of days and red spot once a week to keep parasites at bay I rate the stull, pair 1 and 2 had clear first rounds they are both back down on four eggs from yesterday. the third  pair have done nothing they are getting on well just the hen won’t build. His there anything you can think of the egg she layer she layed  on the floor should I maybe put a nest on the floor. I’ve also separate the cocks from the canaries on eggs is that the right think to do. I kept sibo bullies for year just I’ve never bred mules so I’d be over the moth to get even a couple on the sticks. Cheers Ryan

The only advice I can give you mate as someone gave it me a few years back is don't spoil the goldies with too much good stuff like niger seed etc as they get lazy and just sit off eating it. Give them plenty of dandelions on the run up to breeding to get them in condition but mine get a good British finch mix (so do my canaries) and I use egg food mixed with soak seed and petit pois and give chunks of broccoli. Some just won't mule. I always get plenty of clear eggs early doors too so dont get disheartened.

You could try swapping the cocks around Spanna, some pairs just ain't pairs and never will be. Gnipper is right about the niger and other fatty seeds/foods and this time of year there is stacks of wild food and don't forget trying some mini meal worms or elder sticks covered in black fly as many of the wild finches are eating a hell of a lot of insects this time of year as there isn't much hard seed about in the wild as yet..Clumps of grasses with seeding heads,plenty of chickweed and have a look at the top of the section at the wild food topic for other things.....The bullies are fantastic and by far my favourite finch but in the natural colour for me,best of luck with the next episode mate..

Well done nipper I've a couple more just started to feed them self's cock birds still giving them bits through the mesh divider. Hens on some more eggs at the moment.

They do when they first jump the nest specially when they see you pottering about in birdroom . If you've not handled them more so , happens when the chicks have just been left in nest until jumping they get spooked its all new to them its just fright & flight mode they'll soon settle down. Plus it's nothing to worry about them bashing there tail an wing feathers because they've to moult out its more so stress. Soon as there about 8 days old me i start to get the chicks out handling them when am on the feeding rounds just so they get used to me handling them. So later on in there life they won't be stressed out as much when an giving them the once over or dusting them in multi mite. I love to just sit in birdroom for a good hour on an evening with some music on in back ground. It's mad because the birds seem to pick up vocal when a go in the birdroom happy to see me.

Going to be a complete plonker here so please forgive me. You guys clearly know your birds breeding and inner breeding, colouring and everything else. I enjoy, very much, the pics and inter chat. What on earth do you actually do with all the offspring. I imagine everything has to be ringed and registered somewhere and also you must get involved in bird shows etc. After that? What? Jok.

Personally I only sell/gift birds at the end of the moult I'm not too interested in the show side of things. Only native birds have to be rung to be able to sell them you can keep unrung captive bred birds but personally I wouldn't want to as its guilty till proven innocent isn't it.
