Aussie Whip 4,103
Just took the dogs for their morning walk and my slightly dopey white whippet/grey took off after a roo, which they never do when rabbiting and hit an open weldmesh gate. Slight cut under her eye but has knocked her bottom canine out leaving a deep hole in the gum. Do I need to see a vet or will this heal? I'm pretty sure the whole tooth came out, cheers. mushroom 12,999
Bicarb and rinse with water or that oxygenated water stuff (forget the name in English), it’ll fizz like a cnut but will empty the wound. After that let it heal naturally. A gum should start to granulate within hours, if not less. It’s going to be sore, so soft food and keep cleaning it. 1

Aussie Whip 4,103
Someone told me losing the bottom canines can compromise the jaw leaving it vulnerable to breaking. She's a pet as well as hunter so not sure if I should work her ?
socks 32,253
Losing a tooth/teeth no matter where in the mouth has nothing to do with jaw strength or ability and will not compromise the jaw at all. The majority of “hard” terriers that have reached a decent age hardly have a tooth left left in their mouths and their jaws work just fine.
Daniel cain 45,544
Shouldn't make a difference...I've had terriers lose the front 4 canines....still clamp quarry and try and suck it to death 2

Aussie Whip 4,103
Thanks fellas, good to know she will still work ok, the mouth and cut on her face has healed already. Have had dogs snap teeth off but not knocked right out. Edited May 23, 2022 by Aussie Whip
