I’m after a bipod for my .243, now I’ve never really used them, generally I shoot off stick, now my question is would you go for a fixed or a pivot type and what size, I was thinking 6”-9” and any recommendations, Harris, caldwell etc, I don’t want to spend a fortune, please keep in mind where I’m from ??

Mine are Harris 9-13 swivels. 6-9 are OK for bench rest, but a bit low for normal shooting. Swivel is a good feature for uneven ground.

Don't know about other makes but these have been bulletproof so far.

I've a 9-15. I didn't go for swivel/pan as I found shooting prone it was easier to lift and reposition as run out of body movement trying to swivel. but it does tilt which is good on uneven ground. Definitely get the notched legs. I had a hawke was good but lost it during house move! Then bought a cheap remington one, dog shiť. Now I've got one from Ant supplies and it's spot on & way cheaper than Harris.

Same here for Harris I’ve owned mine for years as good as the day I bought it I’ve got the big one one 13.5 - 27 it’s quite versatile a little high on lowest setting but you just adjust your shoulder body ect highest setting you can sit comfortable and shoot, a little while ago there was a thread on here about shooting sticks which aroused my interest as I’m not getting any younger laying on the floor getting up and down is getting harder, so I bought some I’ve used them once what a faff the aim of the game is stealth whilst fannying around with sticks I’d never get a shot off.

As said 6-9 very limited use.  I've 9-13 and the next size up.

Both Harris Swivels, both useful, for field work Swivels a great advantage!
