comeonsteveuk 0
Was out ferreting with Butch Dinlge and my rabbiting dog Little Ted on sunday. It was great, a good place to ferret and even had some food in the motor. Im really getting the hang of Ted's marks and every set we ferreted produced a good number of bunnies. This is a working contract for a really posh golf course, so its not un-common for us to be given phone numbers during the day by the golfers to do there homes and such. Coming towards the end of the day we had a good number of rabbits and then it happened, it all went so so wrong A Roe Buck bolted from a bush that Little Ted had been marking near. I shouted as soon as I realised what it was.......................................... But I had no chance, he was gone........................ after the big rabbit with the flashing white arse............................ The very last thing I needed was for him to be chasing something over the golf course. But then it got worse....................... Little Ted was on the deer in less than a few seconds, by the time I had finished shouting and made it to the hedgerow they were behind, it was to late.............. The deer was on its side casping for air. Checking that no-one was looking I could only do one thing......... I couldnt release a wounded deer back on to the course and I couldnt let people know that I have a deer killing dog either. What could I do, I tired to stop him, but it was all over in less than 20secs! Little Ted is a whippet collie cross weighing just under 18lb, and just over 18inchs to the shoulder. I hope this never happens again. It just goes to show how things can turn for the worse so quickly. Wishing you all the best, Rabbiteer great stuff good good dog Quote Link to post

Guest Frank
I know the feeling, some years back, i had a whippet x greyhound. Was out mooching about for bunnys, the place never has deer, but it was the october rut and fallow bucks, can travel, he coursed, out of the blue, a fallow buck he came across and brought it down. I know one thing, whippets and whippet crosses, are some dog. Quote Link to post

socks 32,253
you have never come accross as liar or bullshitter mate but i find it really hard to believe that an 19 inch high dog weighing in at 18 pounds would pull down and nearly kill a fully grown roe deer in the few seconds it took you to get to it .... did you actually see the dog do this or are you assuming thats what happened ??? could the deer have damaged itslef going over or through the fence because it was panicked at being chased by the dog ??? either way you have some nice meat there ..........
