Guest Rabbiteer
Was out ferreting with Butch Dinlge and my rabbiting dog Little Ted on sunday. It was great, a good place to ferret and even had some food in the motor. Im really getting the hang of Ted's marks and every set we ferreted produced a good number of bunnies. This is a working contract for a really posh golf course, so its not un-common for us to be given phone numbers during the day by the golfers to do there homes and such. Coming towards the end of the day we had a good number of rabbits and then it happened, it all went so so wrong A Roe Buck bolted from a bush that Little Ted had been marking near. I shouted as soon as I realised what it was.......................................... But I had no chance, he was gone........................ after the big rabbit with the flashing white arse............................ The very last thing I needed was for him to be chasing something over the golf course. But then it got worse....................... Little Ted was on the deer in less than a few seconds, by the time I had finished shouting and made it to the hedgerow they were behind, it was to late.............. The deer was on its side casping for air. Checking that no-one was looking I could only do one thing......... I couldnt release a wounded deer back on to the course and I couldnt let people know that I have a deer killing dog either. What could I do, I tired to stop him, but it was all over in less than 20secs! Little Ted is a whippet collie cross weighing just under 18lb, and just over 18inchs to the shoulder. I would hate to think my actions could or would leed to any ill feelings amongst us, so I have removed the pictures. It was a genuine accident, and the Mods in there wisdom did remove this thread for a while. I hope this never happens again. It just goes to show how things can turn for the worse so quickly. Wishing you all the best, Rabbiteer Edited April 24, 2008 by Rabbiteer Quote Link to post
danielt 1
Well, its luck of the draw, only natural for the dog to chase after quarry, did any one see you, how did you manage to transport the deer to your car ? Quote Link to post

Guest reload
Them things spoil a good walk or a good ferret far too often....... Accidents happen, but breaking him too deer now maybe a problem...all the same its a good haul for a little'un Quote Link to post

bullcross1 10
looks like you had a good day rabbiteer, me dad told me how small ted is, and a must say a think the dog has done remarkably well and we all no how easy these misshaps can happen. Now little ted has had a taste might be difficult keeping him off them in the future Quote Link to post

Very quietly and under the cover of darkness. If I wanted a dog for the deer you think I would have choose something a little bigger. The places that I want him to go for the rabbits he is the perfect size for me. Wishing you all well, Rabbiteer Edited January 21, 2008 by Rabbiteer Quote Link to post
