Been having to feed them progressively later now. Because the magpies will pounce on the chicks, even in quite low light. I don't mind them sharing in the bird food. That's what it's there for. Occasional badger likes a feed of that too. But, the chicks is a bit much.

Anyway, tonight, I thought fukk it. I was busy. So, I fed the Dogs. Had my own grub. Did a bit more, on here. Noticed it was decidedly getting properly dark and so decided to go out and feed the horses and foxes.

I always used to feed the horses first. It was just part of my routine. Tonight, for some reason, I thought I'd feed the foxes first. I wasn't putting a trail cam out. So, I wandered out there, laden with tubs of grub.

Dumped the chicks down, in their spot. Looked down to foxes corner. Calling them. Just because. Strung out a bucket of biscuits. Asked the night air where " Bob " was. Something, to the right, caught my eye.

Along the middle of the track is grass, of course. And some weed had grown up on it. Quite tall, considering. It was about knee high. I tapped the buckets together gently, as I do. Softly calling, " Foxes! Come on, foxes. " under my breath. Peering into the settling darkness across the meadow.

Glanced back at that weed. Six foot to my right. Stared, hard, at it. Muttered, " Ye Fukking Kidding Me?!? " :icon_eek:

No camera. Phone on my hip. But, I genuinely never think of that thing as a camera. Noted the distance. Yep. Six Fukking Feet! Sat there, on her bum. Brush curled round. Watching me patiently. I genuinely wonder if she'd been sitting there, waiting, as I came out the gate?

Didn't know what to do! What was there to do? Said, " Alright, fox fox. " Emptied the jug of biscuits. Said, " There ye go, fox fox. " Turned and wandered back in here. Eyes still bulging in disbelief!

Yep there smart little shits. Once they figure out you mean no harm they really don't care. I raised this one but the same can be said for wild critters. After a while they realize" hay with that weird guy makes that sound theirs free food and it's been like...months and he hasn't tried anything funny soooo"IMG_20210912_103221486_HDR.jpg.95a215e7cf81c49387bf4211c81e50a4.jpg

Love them little gray things! Like something out of a cartoon, aren't they? :D

I'm actually siting my hen house right next to the spot I feed my foxes. Make a handy place to hang a trail cam, actually!

Won't matter shit to anyone. Coop itself'll be one inch, fresh timber. And that'll be locked up in a steel framed, steel mesh cage. Bolted onto a new concrete slab. f***ing rat won't be able to get in there!

Badger's the consideration though. I get them passing by here. Don't live here, like the foxes. But, it only takes one ..... Mains powered fence can have a word with him.

Was eyeballing a pair of geese, last night. But, I really have no secure box for them. Got the room. Just no where a fox couldn't simply wander in and join them. Shame.

Why don’t you sit quietly when you put the food out ...

Cos, believe it or not, mate; I'm really just not that fussed about having things eating out of my hand ?

I like that they're there. Just like we can like that a bumble bee is there. They're a nice little affirmation that there's Some fukking thing out there, other than grass.

I'm absolutely delighted that they trust me enough to let me get right up close to them, like they do. But, taking shit from my hands? Dunno. Always just sorta drawn the line at that. Not a lot of point in it, is there, all's said and done?

Why don’t you sit quietly when you put the food out they will soon get used to you and eventually when they feel safe as they obviously are starting to, eventually they will take food from your hand ??

And doesn't take long
