Are you only allowed 2 over there toolebox? In Queensland here you can't even own one in case they escape, yet they have never been found to survive and breed in the wild here, insane and one reason Queensland sucks, lol.

Yes only two and how much longer I don't know ,due to this pest free b/s .They must also be "fixed" ,you are not allowed to breed them ,swop them or give them away to others .There is always ....a ...way ...

so if your not aloud to breed them....and they have to be neutered...and your not aloud to give them away or sell them.....

how are there any legally.....

As for cut bucks that you call them.....i like them...my ferreting partner Vin had a team of 4...sadly down to 2 now....geat ferrets that could work year round

I've always kept and worked  between 4/6 Jill's and always have a hob in a separate run...just had him done,so he can go in with the girls all yr round..before his op I put him over my oldest/best Jill...I will be keeping back a few smaller males for the really big places,and they are there when I need to breed replacement's

I always put 2/3 Jill's in a bury,I alternate between them every set of holes ...I've enough work for them,I travel far and wide,next season going to Scotland for hunting holiday and there looks to be a fair few local to me finally after yrs of dropping them from all over

Its curious how we change over the years...

I remember being brought up, to never put two ferrets in a warren, or,.. they are sure to kill,.. and lie up

Back in my Father and Grandfather's day, a rabbit was a welcome addition to the families menu, and nobody wanted to risk losing the fecker...

Every hole would be found and painstakingly covered, with big old Hemp nets..

Woe betide the poor unfortunate , who set a net, only to then have the rabbit, flip out, and escape....talk about a hanging offence!

Dordi dordi, what a fecking carry on....

However, time moves on, and we learn more,  we improve our game, and hone our skills,...and forget the sacred script prescribed, by the old time experts..

I often wonder, what my late Father would have thought, if he were to see me dropping,.. four or more lively Jill's, into a massive 100 hole bury....

It doesn't hardly bear thinking about....

Ur right I wouldn't put two ferrets down the holes it was a big no no in them days then came the ferret finder and that change things abit now I seen us putting 6 to 8 ferrets down big Warren's how things have changed all the best

Tis true. The thought of tipping a boxfull of freds into a burrow would've  been considered a recipe for lay ups ,not to mention   obscenely decadent !

We usually only put a second ferret down to hopefully stir things up  if the first one seemed to have stuck. 

In fact most of us only had a ferret or two and anyone who actually owned more than a score of  nets was considered seriously well armed. 

Going out with friends and pooling nets ,ferrets and dogs is great and using long nets is a different sort of game but working alone with purse nets is different. For me anyway. 

   I won't  argue  that it's better than the philosophy of tip em in by sackfull buccaneers , but working solo  l do prefer the slow' n ' steady approach of a single ferret even in quite big burrows. It avoids the embarrasment of trying to deal with too many rabbits bolting at one time or stray  ferrets wrecking nets .  Everything is quieter ,less stressful  and I don't end the day feeling like a harassed housewife who has failed the multi tasking exam. I'm convinced there are less lay ups too. Which on soft shallow buries isn't an issue but when there is six feet of Sussex clay and sandstone between you and a reluctant bolter it is a  "consideration".

And before l reach for the spade l'll see if the second ferret can stir things up.

Just like in the old days when we were so poor that our Mother  used offcuts of  wool to knit us purse nets for our weekend rabbiting trips. Those very same nets actually served double duty as string vests during the week .

   As for ferrets ; we made our own out of pipe-cleaners and poked them down the holes on hazel sticks. 

Though one lad actually had an honest to god stuffed weasel on the end of his pole and nets made from his sister's old fishnet tights.  He unfortunatly lost his weasel but not his enthusiasm for womens' tights  and still performs a specialist caberet  act in a certain type of  Brighton  nightclub. 

And yes l remember the venemous thunderstorm that followed    the sight of thrown meshes and an escaping bunny.

 Ya know,,...when I think about all the thousands of days (and more than a few nights)spent standing, up behind a bury, waiting on that bolt, and of all the crazy events and experiences, that have occurred,...I often ponder that an interesting, informative and fairly unique book, could be penned ..

At first I used to become sad, at the thought of so many, seemingly wasted years,...but now, I'm not so sure
