Bush Rummager 4,755
Looking forward to seeing some pics of this cross. Ran a rough bitch 27".5 bitch 30 year ago. Decent hare dog to be fair. Lost her after a head on with a fence post on a day time rabbit on a morning piss walk of all things.. Quote Link to post
myersbg 1,385
the brindle pup was 7 months old in the pic, the red bitch its mother is the staghound cross from over the pond, 1 Quote Link to post
Blackmag 6,102
Owned this cross in the late 80s a decent dog on edible day or night very much single handed would retrieve live to hand mark anything but was dog aggressive so gave him to a lad who run him single handed and he took some numbers and his main quarry was venison 2 Quote Link to post
jossa 971
Ran them for a lot of years, but lost the blood a few years back. A cross i'd have again if i could come across a genuine litter. Quote Link to post
jossa 971
All good pot fillers, I lost the bitch to a broken neck she was a great all rounder. Same for the black dog r,h,d he'd never fail me. The big dog was a once in a life time dog he could do it all from rabbits to drawing bigger quarry from holes. 15 Quote Link to post
jukel123 8,314
Its a pity this type is now seldom seen.Best dog I ever had was bred this way. Honest worker and a fabulous temperament. A great companion/working dog. Its a shame there are so many bull crosses and saluki crosses now. They seem to have replaced the deer/grey/collie grey types. I know plenty will say, there's an obvious reason for that. I would have to agree the specialist crosses do what they do better than the all rounder d/g/c/g types. But nevertheless, for me, if I had to choose, a honest deer/grey/collie grey would be my choice every day of the week. 8 Quote Link to post

sandymere 8,263
40 years ago was my last of the type, you would struggle to get a decent DH then so now it could only be worse but in truth all you would want from the DH would be the coat as modern greyhound will give the size. Having said for those looking for a traditional jack of all trades lurcher they did the job. Then to consider, as lurchers are becoming ever more part time workers and increasingly show/ racing dogs its also a cross that can fulfil those other roles very well.
