NEWKID 27,116
If you get over i could take you for a days carp fishing, or sea fishing on kayaks... Better still fish a few smaller rivers for chub, roach, odd trout etc...no fancy kit..a rod and reel, bait bib with your bits and bobs in and walk the rivers... Could run a few bits with the dogs or a bit of ferreting... Edited February 18, 2022 by NEWKID
Born Hunter 17,751
For me, what would probably define British fieldsports in the eye's of a foreigner would be, Driven pheasant shooting - very different to what is typical in the states. Foxhunting - preferably following fell hounds in the lake district as it's utterly breath-taking scenery and it's hunting at it's purest. Stalking a hill stag in Scotland - it's just iconic. Stalking muntjac and water deer - not something that can be easily found anywhere else in the world. I think the fishing side of things is probably pretty similar to what you guys would already be used to. That's the classy end of things. At the more easy going end, and every bit as enjoyable, I'd say, Ferreting - with nets, long nets, lurchers and shotguns. Do it all! Wood pigeon shooting - decoying but preferably roost shooting. In terms of bird shooting sport I don't think anything comes close. Ratting with terriers Dare I say carp fishing? Kill me now, but I suppose it should be listed. We don't have 'slams' etc. Our deer are measured based on the CIC system, with bronze/silver/gold the standards people want to achieve. We have the MacNab, as already mentioned. Then there's achievements like left and right woodcock. Of course everyone wants to say their own fieldsport but those are the one's that either I've noticed yanks coming here to do or I would consider somewhat defining. Like y'all got certain events or places to hunt or fist or something ya feel everyone should do if they can. Like fishing here ,or hunting for x at y with z method ? Or better do y'all have "Slams" ? Like here we have turkey grand slam ,the big ten slam heck ,trout ,bass , or catfish slams even the trash slam I think for certain species. And basically what a slam is is you go to certain places all around the country to hunt for fish for specific animals. Like with the Turkey Super Slam involves tagging a wild turkey in each of the 49 states that have turkeys. And I think it's a royal if you tag each subspecies as well. Anyhow just curious as always If your serious... I'd let you visit me in Ireland in winter if you liked... Plenty of pigeon shooting Pheasant, duck shooting Take you ferreting to lurchers Lamping rabbits and fox with lurchers Out with the hounds foxhunting And out with the terriers

And I gotta say alot of people talk bad about high fences but heck alot of them pens are 400 acres minimum. Twh again alot of time your sitting in a box stand over a corn pile but can't exactly spot and stalk in alot of them places. Why would you want a fence when you can experience the “thrill” of your dog running a fallow onto an active housing estate building site in the day time complete with cheering bricklayers and other assorted shocked workers !?!!
