The council wanted £25 a year to empty our brown bin, (garden waste), I told them no, come and take the bin away.

They never replied or took the bin away, so now it's a compost bin at my allotment, and I take all my grass cuttings there to give to the hens.

We were told to put glass in the black box in the blue recycling bin, and plastic in the bin, but I watch them emptying them and they all go in the bin wagon together !

Anything that burns goes to the allotment but we've had a couple of visits from the Environment Agency about burning plastic and rubber, so need to be careful now.

Cheers.

your maths are wrong mate...it's 40 a year not a month..

our monthly council tax is £210..

I don't pay the extra for the green bin...in fact my green bin has a bale of woodshavings in next to the ferret cage..

it's also my understanding that you have to opt in to have the green bin emptying...I never have so even if I put it out it won't get emptied

You are right tomo it is 40 a year not a month I’ve jumped the gun an got it wrong ???
our green bin is our general waist bin our brown bin (garden waist) that we’ve had for the last 12-13years since the separation from putting garden waist in the green general waist. Brown is the bin they have put the new charge a year against although charges for emptying that bin is already payed they’ve now also provided a grey bin for food waist.
So are you saying I can opt out of paying the new charges of a extra 40 a year as I don’t really use the brown bin anyway an will I get a deduction in what I’m paying as that bins already covered to be emptied or do you think there say that covers the cost to empty the new grey food waist bin that I’m also not going to use?

I wouldn't be paying anything extra for refuge collection pay enough for council tax, used to put used sawdust and shavings  and poo ??? in our brown bins  then council changed this and sent a letter asking us to put this in the Blue bin which is the landfill bin, so to keep the smell down and the little white wrigglers at bay in the summer months this gets bagged  and put in the blue bucket which is also the smallest bucket, so a couple of times every few months a visit to the recycling center is needed  by car but the smelly bags are kept for the blue bin that gets collected every 2 weeks by the council.

Hate recycling they can shove it. I get the reasoning behind it but I LOATH paying for it. Pay a fortune in council tax and yet get dictated too what I can and can not put in my bags and only allowed x amount of black bags blah blah. Wash this wash that before sticking in blue bags so wasting gas or leccy on hot water washing greasy stuff. Great idea that. For the amount of council tax it should all go in one bag and they can sort it if there so keen on it. Local council tip is like fort knox because I have a piddly little van I have to have a permit and only allowed so many trips etc. Some people who exceed the black bag limit at least try and drop them in a lay bye right next to a council bin. Next thing big signs up oh don't do that. They wonder why people lob stuff in the hedge. Bunch of idiots

aah thats better
