Squirrel_Basher 17,100
When we were ratting the other day ,the farmer said to me that he had a fox checking out the chicken sheds every night and would i care to have a look for it .The weather lately has been a bit grim so as it was a light drizzle and windy tonight i decided on a look out on my own .Arrived at the farm in daylight as it had been seen at various times from dusk onwards .I chose to sit up on a stack of silage bales and to keep quiet as the foxes here are notoriously shy .As the last light went out the sky ,i saw a fox running down the far hedge ,about 150 yds away .A shout only made him run faster and i thought that was it for the evening .I had the scope mounted lamp with me and slotted it on the .222 for a walk about before heading home .I scanned the field with the laying sheds in but saw nothing so decided on a walk around the headland .They have moved 2 of the sheds in this field onto fresh ground so i didnt expected to see anything around them.I turned the corner of one of these and was surprised to see a fox curled up asleep in a slight depression in the ground ,obviously sheltering from the wind and rain .It looked up as i spread the bipod and i thought it would have been gone but no ,it mearly yawned and settled back down ?.Another night , i may of left it to sleep but the foxes here have recently dug under one of the sheds and you can guess the rest .I put the crosshairs on its head and squeezed one off .Charlie never knew a thing about it .The close range caused the shot to be low and took him in the throat .Showed the farmer who has a caravan onsite and he was well pleased. It was a dog fox ,not huge but well furred up. I will be back Quote Link to post
