I think Putin has made some grave miscalculations, he thought Ukraine would fold in days, he didn't see the severity of the sanctions, he didn't see the west overtly supplying Ukraine with modern weapons, and, most seriously of all, he grossly overestimated the ability of his own military.

Just my opinions, of course. I'm no geo political expert

It isn't just that either. Immediately post WW2 Russia benefitted from slave labour including many top scientists and engineers who were captured in Germany. They involuntarily kick started the Russian nuclear program, but they haven't been replaced by scientists and engineers of similar capabilities. That is why they have not been able to keep up with the West or former USSR countries who have a more enlightened attitude to intellectuals and shared knowledge.

Id say dont underestimate putin, he could well be playing the west to get his hands on their tech by sacrificing his old stock

There's open source groups that are cataloguing all the confirmed kit kills, ones that are photographed  with locations coming out of Ukraine and its painting a very different picture to the conscripts / old kit narrative,  the majority of the destroyed kit is turning out to be the latest or fairly recent  versions,  not the sort of thing you would expect to be in the hands of conscripts.

Just to add recent videos of kit being moved by Russia to the east of Ukraine by train is now showing  older  versions  being  moved in .

Yeah ive seen it and it is a bit bizarre.  But that said I think he looks very tierd and a bit drunk rather than high as a kite , honestly who can blame a man ? Churchill was blotto most the time by all accounts,  theres a unbelievable amount of pressure on them. Maybe turn his camera phone off next though

id still not underestimate them though, if the west is far superior then it justifies every penny and cent spent on getting ahead of the competition
