I agree generally with what you say, but the Balkan wars were about as bad , as far as atrocities go, as any war.

Its hard to say what they were about. The break up of Yugoslavia, Nationalism versus Communism, Christianity versus Islam ? 

A lot of the people charged with, and convicted of war crimes and genocide were confused and appalled that the west didn't back them in stopping the encroachment of Islam, as they had done hundreds of years ago, they still thought themselves, and probably still do, as the bulwark against Islam invasion.

Does Putin see his invasion of Ukraine as a Slavic defence of Anglo Saxon encroachment ? He seems to blame the USA and the UK mostly or is it as simple as a land grab ?

I don't know, and I haven't a clue how it will pan out.

You possibly didn't have a belief , and found religion.? As opposed to a staunch atheist that found religion I mean, anyway not of any consequence...

It may not be utopia, we may dislike, even hate, the politicians and the way we are governed, but I've travelled and lived around the world, and for all the UK's faults and failings, it's the best I've seen.

When I retired 18 years ago I could have went and lived anywhere in the world, but I chose to come home to the UK; why ? Because it's where I was born, its where my kith and kin, mainly, are, it's a place I know I can still have a point of view, can still speak my mind , where the news I hear isn't government controlled, even though it may be biased, but there's plenty to choose from, it's a place where if I fall on hard times, there's a safety net called "benefits ", if I get ill, there's the NHS, still the worlds best free point contact health care.

When my grandson was born, we had the choice of a British passport or a Saudi Passport.....there was no hesitation, no discussion, he got a British passport, as ive heard many foreigners say, its like winning the worlds passport lottery !

We, me included, complain about immigration, but why the hell do you think they risk their lives, not just escaping African and Asian shitholes, but escaping France and the rest of Europe to get here ? 

Probably because it's the safest, most generous and least racist,( even thought we DO have racism), country in the world !

Sorry for the rant, lads, but maybe it's an age or experience thing, but I've lived in a lot of worse places, and think "if you hate the place so much.....f**k off somewhere else " !

I have to disagree slightly, the Saudis are not besieging the Yemen. 

They are providing air support to the government forces against the Iran supported Houthi rebels that are tying to overthrow the government.

All a bit pedantic when there are children dying of starvation and bombing, but it all depends on who you support...the government or the rebels.

Absolutely no problem mate

As ive mentioned many times, my grandson is half Saudi, his mother is Saudi but her grandfather is Yemeni, and his farm in Yemen was taken by the rebels, so I may be a bit biased !

Please don't think I was saying that Europe/Europeans aren't as bad as the rest of the world. Just that the impact of such things in Europe have greater consequences than if they occurred elsewhere. There's definitely a double standard, shit in Europe matters more than shit elsewhere. The consequences of an invasion elsewhere is a bit of news, the consequences of an invasion in Europe is a world at war and tens of millions dead. I don't know if it's because Europe is the heart of modern civilisation or if it's that world power is still concentrated here or what. But instability on this continent reverberates around the globe.

The Balkan conflicts displayed the worst of humanity no doubt. On par with anything that might be found in Africa.
