terryd 8,496
I know one thing I wouldn't want to be in a tank on either side. Bloody death traps like sitting duck.
Nicepix 5,650
This conflict will have redrawn the manual. Tanks will be confined to very few theatres of war like the cavalry were after machine guns became readily available. A few lightly armoured soldiers on quads and 4x4s with anti tank weapons can wreak havoc on a convoy.
Born Hunter 17,776
I said right back at the start of this thread (maybe a different thread) that if the invasion goes ahead it'll be an interesting test to see if heavy armour/tanks are obsolete on the modern battlefield. The problem is, from the commentary of experts that I have read, the Russians are not demonstrating any degree of modern tactical thinking in their use of tanks, and armour generally. It's almost like they have absolutely no in depth training. There will have been a lot learnt from this conflict by the West, and I expect warfare academics will be using it as a case study for years, but I'm not sure it was the conclusive answer that I thought it would be. Though it certainly hasn't done anything to change the minds of those who do believe the tank is obsolete. One thing that I believe will/should change as a result of this is the proliferation of cheap UCAVs. For the price of one high end Reaper, we could have 20 TB2s! At the moment there is a lot of emphasis in Western forces on gold plated high spec kit and I think this conflict will drive a more balanced fleet.
