I ended up floating along with the herd until they pushed them off the road for the night and settled down. Went to find the shepherds and after a bit of banter, our came the red wine and spirits and a tape of Romanian dancy folk music was found and stuck on the cars tape deck. We had a right knees up, and they showed me their dogs complete with spiked collars etc and said they are great dogs but as you don’t know them don’t turn your back or go walking through the herd on your own at night! Some of them looked to have seen some serious combat! Great times. I’ll try to dig out some photos. I used to love packing up what ever kit I had "not much " bung it all in a nail of the motor I had at the time and bugger of few months and I'd say the pyrenees was my favourite and I also like Germany, we parked up in a gateway on a forest road for the night in the old ambulance I'd convert and woke up to something hitting the van and when I opened the door it was wild pigs rooting about so just went back to sleep and woke to find flat tyre and more dents along the side of motor . I have a couple mates who live in hungry ,they moved out few years ago and live in what we'd call a farm house but to them it's village house ,it had no electricity, gas and only water is a well under the floor in house ,they payed 15 grand for the property and took a caravan out there to live in while they renovated it and they living in the house now and they keep few pigs ,fowl and goats ,they keep asking me to go over so maybe this summer I go. 2 Quote Link to post

And used to speak half decent Hungarian, serbo-Croat and a bastardised Slavic patter made up of Slovak, polish and similar now it’s a bit rusty but I’d pick it up quick again. Then odd phrases in a lot of others, usually related to women, and beer. Kin el, sheepy!! How old are you?! you've lived and worked in a dozen or more countries, have a degree in ancient history, modern history, psychology criminology, ran/owned a nightclub, you speak 8 or 9 languages, are fluent in 'swahili', 'afrikaans, and god knows what else, you've owned and worked several different lurcher crosses etc, and been farming for a few years!! Not sure, but think you said recently, you are 35. You must've started when you were 3 years old!! Not a dig at you really, but stone the crows, how the f**k have you packed all that into such a relatively short space of time?! Or, like I said before, am I missing something here? Ps, don't throat punch me, if you happen to pass me somewhere. Edited February 8, 2022 by shaaark 1 1 Quote Link to post

mackem 26,072
Life is indeed for living, it's a truism that your a long time dead, I actually just said to one of my kids earlier when I phoned him not to waste a second of his life, cram as much in as you possibly can,it's about experiences, collect them,it all becomes complicated when you have kids, get married and have the responsibilities that are part and parcel of normalcy. 2 Quote Link to post

Borr 5,712
Kids definitely put the stoppers on for me, along with life in general, but I've enjoyed them and they're getting to the age where I can start doing a bit with them, airguns and fishing for the time being and build on that as time goes, not sure I'd encourage lurcher work as it's a bit of heart ache but hopefully get them camping and hiking this summer, as said do as much as you can before kids come along if it's an option.... 3 Quote Link to post
