In the countries you mentioned wolfs should be a given, too. Are the people not afraid for their dogs? You hear some real horror stories over there, wolfs having fun killing hunting dogs and so on...
 

A good mate lives in Slovakia not far from polish border and he was telling me how bears come onto his property and wolf packs in the area .

I see a documentary about a sheperd in the alps and he had trained a pack of herders to protect the sheep from wolves as farmers was loosing to much stock , some of the herder types he used was ike a mastiff and he used huntaways and French herder and it was first year in many they didn't loose a sheep ,but like sheperd said a single dog would be killed by wolves but a pack keeps them at bay .

Totally agree, but I don’t think many Hungarian officials are stalking here mate etx. End of the day folk can send PMs or even just chat in general. Have hunted wolves a bit in Slovak / Polish high tatras, with little success also messed about chasing deer, boar and kamzik? (Mountain goat). Pissed about a bit in France, hunted a few bits in Spain, gone coursing, digging and bolting stuff in Hungary etc

I think Hungary would be my choice , maybe with a few mooches en route, a lot of EU countries are sewn up and policed by local chasse , poorer countries would probably have some wilder lands and a more open outlook. Local knowledge is key as with any excursion....

Aye I used to went to the first couple, think we hosted the second in Wales. Went to the last one and will be going to the next. A top bunch of lads.

I bet your mate who you say has wolves is around where I used to live, up in the mountains along the polish / Slovak border. Proper mountains ! 
 

Re LGD - common in Europe but also standard in the states and Canada. Main breeds are Anatolian shepherds, Komondors, maremmas, kangols, akbash, Great Pyrenees, and various mastiffs. I’m fascinated by them and have spent some time around them.
