BGD 6,436
I don't think this had anything to do with excess quotas? Sounds like it was cock up
Nicepix 5,650
The group monitoring fishing vessels dispute this claiming that it is not a rare occurance. Which is why they were out there recording the incident.

Cheers Arry It says hake in the report, but I wondered why they would dump hake (I know they are saying ripped net, bullshit!! lol)... think your right mate, a huge haul of "worthless fish" so dump them.... what these super trawlers do to the worlds seas is crazy!!
terryd 8,558
The size of these ships is beyond. From march we are allowed to take two bass a day home caught angling. I never could understand the point of that. You might catch 4 one day and nothing for the next month. No shore angler is going to make any sort of dent compared to a trawler. Size limits are a good thing though and to be honest an upper size limit would do no harm as far as bass go at least 4

Personally I think taking nothing over say 44 cm would be the better bet and then the breeding fish get a chance to breed, particular as bass are a slow growing species... the nursery zones down here are alive with scholies though.

I think there should be a size zone like the yanks do, say 38cm to 50cm or even do it on weight - 2lb to 4lb fish only

My mate had a cracking fish off Branscombe a couple of years back, didn't weigh it but it was easy 8lb maybe more, it went home with him... fair play, no problem, but it did make me a bit gutted to be honest....
