Bedlington terrier

Recommended Posts

Just wondering if any one can tell me what I need to be looking for in a good Bedlington terrier.

And if you wanted the best breeding line where would you go and who would you ask?

I am doing some research for a future purchase any comments or thoughts as well as names greatly accepted!

Thanks all!!

Hi , there is a web site for working beddys , wwwthecountrydog.co.uk . What do you want the dog to work ? The beddy is not a out and out earthing dog unless there is a dash of lakey , my opinion . Get a pup off boys who work them , do your home work on the breed so you know the beddy is the right dog for you !

as alan said get one from lads that work them and steer well clear of show shit, my beddies are rillington strain and do earthwork in the main but will bush all day long BEDLINGTONS are not jrts or pats there a different kettle of fish strange things but good fun.

best of luck in your quest

Hi, first i should say that there are far more experienced beddy owners on here than me, but i have young bitch with some gutchcommon blood in her - havnt dug to her yet or anything - 8 months old. She has a strong head, a thick warm coat - which some dont, and is generally tough. Not as keen(yet) or as smart as my jrt but very loyal and has a better nose when she wants to use it. She will bush through heavy cover and goes to ground and has chased a fox or two above ground. Also shes always dead quite, and will swim to retrieve a dummy. hope that helps.

Swanseajacks the man to ask :victory:

:boogie: Ha Ha, I now feck all about bedlingtons, breeding I would say worker to worker, working lines :icon_eek: just make sure it's worker to worker.. and saying that, all depends what type of work you going to do with it, if you want a dog for rabbiting bushing etc... little ole lurcher should do the trick... if you want a dog for digging....... patt, russell, lakey, or from bedlingtons that are doing it, doing it regularly, SINGLE HANDED... and their offspring are doing it, proven lines,,,,,,,,,,

Bedlingtos are a strange breed, you need broad shoulders, and a great deal of patience.... Good luck...

i.m sure my mate got one of his bedlingtons from swansea jack and although one has just died at 13 years old, they were both cracking dogs

hello

i never seen a pure bedlington work but if there any think like beddyx i would have one. i have 2 3/4 bedlingtons and they have been to ground and lamp foxes at night but there not that fast to get foxes all the time so the fox has to be close. good little ferreting and bushing dogs aas well and have had there fair share on the lamp. also they love ratting. one thing is they dont no when to stop some times when it comes to earths.
