As carefree teenager we used to ferret the railway lines next to a Lords estate :tongue2: used to piss the keepers off because they could,nt chase us British Rail land :feck: just had to be careful of the Inter cities flying down the lines :o Also used to go down Sunderland docks with the air rifles to shoot the ferals & longtails in the old paper mills, ropery & the likes.Would,nt dare do that now tho....

Andy, that had to be the railway lines on the south side of the river running along Lambtons  All the pheasants used to cross the tracks to feed on the corn fields :D Used to get LOADS of ferals under southwick bridge,Austin and pickersgills etc.............

:whistling::whistling::yes: Your right about the pheasents :whistling:

Theres a strip of woods on the estate side of the tracks, then the footpath, then Lambton garden centre,we used to get dozens of roosters whenever we went,is the layout still the same?

The layout is the same, the lines are disused now,i know that they have developed the garden centre & old farm buildings round the back of it.Never been there since the late 80,s but there still should be plenty of sport :whistling:

not that ime advocating illegal hunting ,but i can highly recomend the SAS survival handbook by john wiseman, the hunting section is briliant!

I dont thinks its that pucker to be honest

Most of those set ups in there all more complicate than what is needed.

If you where in the middle of some remote desert with that book, you would probally starve to death

Ive got my own little trapping book here that i find alot more usefull and the author does not make things looks harder that what there are ;)

Good hunting LL :D

  • 2 weeks later...

I just use a silenced .22 air rifle with poor quality torch on top. The air rifle is quite enough and the crapy torch gives of just enough light to see the bird in a scope and get a head shot.

The problem is if you wound it it makes so much noise and often scares others away. If this happens i relocate to another wood some way away.
