The first was from his collie/kelpie bitch (I think called Ruby) mated to a whippet which produced Gem etc. Then he mated (I think) Ruby's brother to his whippet/greyhound which produced Purdey. The third litter (from which I bought my last lurcher Moss) was sired by the same dog to his racing greyhound bitch Tell Nobody. The collie used was (from what I've heard from several different sources) of a particularly good type from Barry Sharpe in Somerset (I think). Obviously I'm, going back several years with these "facts" so some of them could be a tad out. I think it says he mated a pure kelpie to a.whippit x greyhound bitch I watched a video on YouTube now I could be wrong that's were purdey came from Quote Link to post
SheepChaser 8,089
If anyone is looking for similar bred pups, I think there will be a litter coming up in the future - Kelpie x grew or racey Lurcher. 2 Quote Link to post

I think it's a bit like how people referred to dogs from Richard Jones breeding back in the 80s etc as "beardie crosses" as that was the trendy part of the breeding so they conveniently neglected to mentioned the Border collie blood. In addition, a lot of those dogs (including my lurcher) were merle...and you don't get merle kelpies. 1 Quote Link to post

He’s asked me to find a dog to use, he’s got the Kelpie. Wants a pup out of her for himself for mooching and general hunting about, etc. Im thinking a real racey Lurcher with a little drop of bull to sort out any silliness. Quote Link to post
SheepChaser 8,089
Will most likely use whatever dog we have about that fits the right size, shape, speed etc, or a non ped whippet. 1 Quote Link to post

More upright in working style, loose eyed, and often loud 1 Quote Link to post

SheepChaser 8,089
Good size Kelpie that. The fashion now is for tiny things. The ones in Oz are much stronger built snd thicker set like that one in your photo. 2 Quote Link to post
