Can chimpanzees swim?

no pretty sure they can't, the open air zoo near me uses wide creeks instead of fences around the chimpanzees. But there are those ones in China that use the natural hottubs (but I think they just walk on the bottom).

Don't think they can swim in general, many zoo's, including chester have moats around the enclosure to help keep them in, however there was an Attenborough programme a few years ago and some chimps were shown crossing a river to feed!!!

There is a MASSIVE difference between being SCARED ofwater and NOT being able to swim...

Just because they dont like getting there feet wet, dosnt mean that if you threw one in deep water, it would drown!...IMO, anything with arms and legs, if its finds itself in water, can swim!...

Its like running...i cant run that far, but when you have the Old Bill after you, you can keep running all night if you have to...

Kye,..
