philpot 4,967
We brought one home today to try out on a sale or return basis or at least my pal had it on sale or return. First test was on my Wildcat / Hawke Airmax Compact, trying different IR positions we got a decent result looking across from my garden over to the trees on the other side of the field which is 125 - 130mts, happy with that but not usable on that gun as the stock is way to short so for me to use the 007v on my gun, the scope would need to go forward by approx 3'' minimum. Next test was on my Tikka / Hawke Varmint scope, again a good result but a little more finess needed with the IR torch but whilst not quite as good as the compact, nevertheless not bad at all. At least with the longer stock I was able to mount it with the scope in the daytime position...........just. Next up were my pal's two Crowns, one with the Hawke Airmax Compact which was spot on and with the longer stock than my Tikka, it was easy to mount the gun and have a comfortable head position. The last test was the other Crown / Optisan CP Compact scope. We had to have the adapter a little loose as the diameter of the scope is a little small and needed tape or trimming down the spacer ring which at this stage we didn't want to do as it was only a test. The result was pretty good, perhaps not quite as good as the Hawke Airmax but really not far off. Without doubt, the 007v is spot on when fitted to the longer stock of the Crown and quite good on the Tikka stock so winner winner xmas dinner but where it failed was on my bullpups, the Wildcat and we popped it on my P35 as both had the Hawke Airmax Compact scopes but the stocks were just too short and simply no good UNLESS some kind of extension was fitted in order to keep the scope in the daytime position. We also quickly scanned the net and for £25 you can buy extra adapters so no farting around moving the adapter from rifle to rifle which I think is a must. I don't think this 007v is going anywhere, just a great pity the 007s was so poor as they would have been ideal for my guns. Something I forgot to mention, the IR is pretty powerful as we never took it above level one (1 - 3 power levels) over the 125mt range so I think this model will go out to some considerable distance and in fact it may need a neutral density filter fitting to the front of the IR for close up shooting. Now I need a Crown plus another Hawke Airmax Compact scope and then of course the 007v...............................lotto tomorrow night Phil 1 Quote Link to post
