The lads go mud larking and have found some good stuff on the Thames.

Unless you are a licenced mudlark there is no detecting or digging on the Thames. Think an eyes only permit is about 35 quid a day

Probably, I know certain hoardes belong to the treasure?

Only if they know about it and most finds are worth more separate than job lot and let's be honest how many finds do actually get reported

Nighthawks are nocturnal metal detector it's without permission, they are getting clued up, really techie nowadays with complex machines and sometimes carry thermals so they don't get nabbed. If you find anything of value don't hand it in, your find is often undervalued and it can take years sometimes to get your cash, there's dealers of antiquities advertise in metal detecting magazines who are discrete.

Funny how guys end up with similar interests. Lots of members interested in: lurchers, terriers, fishing, shooting, cage  birds, poultry, boxing, football metal detecting, snooker, darts falconry. With me, ever since I was a kid, it's been anything that moves.....starting off with beatles, butterflies and worms as a toddler and moving on to fishing ferreting etc etc. Wonder if it's in the blood or what?

This guy wasn't birdwatching, well, he might have been but had a metal detector with him on land he shouldn't have been on, the last I heard he was getting prosecuted? I wonder how much is found and just gets sold on discretely, out of sight out of mind, finders keepers and all that ?

Bird watching in a field in eastern England led to a find worth more than £800,000 for one keen...

One thing that has never interested me at all is fishing, think it's something to do with me suffering from knot dyslexia. ?

You've never lived till you get that big pull on the line. Just been out with the dogs and one saw a cat and pulled on the lead. My first reaction was" its a pull on the line, strike!" Give  it a try mate. You'll be hooked.??

He's in a good place up near Carlisle for all that, still, like dogging, I bet the place has been hammered.

Still, he is still finding regularly when out.

I bet there's some good finds to be had on the Thames.

Where are these dogging sites? Asking for a friend...
