Ken's Deputy 4,460
" When they came for him, half an hour later ..... " One of the most memorable bits of writing I ever read. It's from " The Totem ". (1979) Second book by David Morrell. Better unknown to you lot as the bloke who invented the character of John Rambo, in his first ever book, " First Blood ". (1972) " Testament " (1975) was his third book. Written in a time and place long ago and far, far away. A lost world where absolute realism wasn't 'Cancelled' because it 'Offended'. Where a mans wife and kids could become targets. Getting my sound bar, soon. Might treat myself to Testament, on audio book

Ken's Deputy 4,460
I've very long held the view that films are just ~ hopefully! ~ a treat and an added bonus for those who've read the book, mate Reading it gives you the inside track. Ye know what's been left on the floor and so much more makes sense. I guess I could say it's a bit like the reader sees the film in HD Colour. Otherwise, ye watching in black and white. They could never attempt to portray anything like Testament. It's not made for the luvvies. Far and away to cold bloodedly, unremittingly, sphincter wrenchingly realistic. Fantastic bloody read! Morrell's never stopped writing. Probably half, or more, of his other books could make block buster films. Cult / Franchise material, a lot of it. He can shift genre too. Quite surprisingly. But, yeah: Testament, one more time, is on my bucket list. And that passage from The Totem? Fukking Magnificent!!!

I’d say that scene in the police station at the end when he is talking to his ex commanding officer is Stallones finest hour, it’s up there with the all time great actors ever imho 1
mackem 26,809
The book was good, film was better, Rambo was named after an apple cultivar.
