Wolfdog91 7,274
Y'all I love a good fixer upper ! So much more rewarding then out of the box for me. Picked up this old Beaman RS2 dual cal from the pawn shop for $50 two months ago. Couldn't tell what was wrong with it off the bat but their $15o-$170 new so picked it up and didn't eat out that week Well got her home shot it over the chrony a few times and with the .22cal barrel these should be pushing 800fps max I was getting 350fps plus alot of dieseling smells. Well off the bad I saw it was missing the breach seal and also the barrel would not stay put with the provided set screw. Three to five shots and the recoils would have it out so I blue lock righted her down. Not really a .177 guy anyhow. So figured due to the smell last owner tried libbing it with regular gun oil or wd40. Figured the seals where probable toast and needed to be changed along with the whole gun needing to be cleaned and lubed properly. So broke out the screw drivers and punches and yeeeep So yeah about half an hour with a can of break cleaner and some paper towel got all that cleaned up. Ordered a new set of seals and o rings from ArcherAir and proceeded to wait. In the mean time practiced some wood working and did a half decent job fitting the grip to my tiny hands. I mean. I guess some of y'all bigger guys would have no problem shooting it as is but I'm 5'1 tiny hands ( and I can hear the jokes bite me ) not very comfortable at all 1/2' belt sander ,a sharpie and ,some hand sanding made a half decent deal I reckon. So much nicer to shoot with this ! So then the parts came in and I had to build a spring compressor out of some cheap 2x4's and a clamp. Btw if y'all making one of these don't do what I did and by a friggen quick release c clamp. It was the cheapest clamp they had this size but CHRIST you talking about annoy ! Almost get youe spring where you want it then try to back out a lil and *ziiiiiiip booooiiing * completely undoes it's self Anyway sorry no pics of reassembly but wasn't too much, took a small paint brush and coated all the internals in a nice thin layer of moly grease. Also had to re grind some of the retainer pins , china and they're hydraulic presses and me and a mini ball peen hammer are too different things lol Stained the grip with some red mahogany stain which honestly is too dark but I like the burn look it gives . Probably gonna look better with a layer of clear coat but didn't have any at the house. So yeah did all that and tossed a old 4x32 chicom scope I had laying around on her and boom And I'll tell y'all ,it sounds crazy but changing that grip ! Boy this thing just points and it's crazy I put it on target and it just floats there. Definitely gonna do this to the next wood stock air gun I'm get. And speaking of on target five round groups @15yd pellets now speeding out at a average of 745fps. Out of all the springers I've had this is the first one that just pain a joy to shoot! Reckon all and all it's came out might nice for a $50 pawn shop gun ,think other then a better scope down the road and layer clear coat on the grip only other thing I might do add sling studs and a sling and mabye do some wood burning on the forend just because. But anyhow might be heading outta state on a group coon hunt and heard the place is full of squirrels so we'll see annnnnnyhow just sharing as usual . Happy new year !
