jedandlevo 8
Ferrets are photoperiodic breeders and only come into season as the day length increases. The pituitary gland in the brain releases hormones, unless you have them in an artificial environment the I can'see her being pregnant. Surely you would have noticed the swollen vulva and all the signs????????????? I have a jill who is in season now... she's outdoors only in dim natural light only, as she was a rescue we're not CERTAIN but know she's likley this years kit.. the other jill who i KNOW is this years kit is still flat as a pancake... makes the comparrison very easy lol. The hob that lives with them is very gentle and i haven't witnessed the mating bit yet... i guess a week or so will tell if the swelling goes down ? the two bitches are separated from the hob Quote Link to post
Kay 3,709
this pics what the jill would have looked like when she was in season, the size may have varied slightlu though this pic is my jill last year , she is big but went another 2 weeks after this pic was taken hope this helps a bit cheers kay thats what me ferret looked like befor i put the hob in with after it her then it went down but now shes gettin fat now and you can see her nipples more clearly now and it has made a cicular bed now were it used to sleep any were in the cage befor and ive split the other bitch in to its own cage now because some one told me that the ferret might eat its kits as it might treat the other bitch as a threat im learning alot now by reading books and getting advice of the class web site keep the advice cumming as im no expert oh ye when its had the kits will porrige be ok for the kits to eat as sum one said they used it befor The mom will feed the kits milk when there born, but once they reach roughly 3 weeks old make sure you offer preferably rabbit, the kits will start to chew it as young as 3 weeks old, no need for anything else other than good old fashoned free raw rabbit , oh and water Quote Link to post

An excellent point Moll, there are a lot of regional differences. I live in Southwest Scotland, and quite a few terms are different, for example the running lines of a long net are called the top and bottom bands. Tealers on snares are called set pins, and as you say quite a few people refer to ferrets as bitch and dog, and often young ferrets are called just young ones, or younguns. I try to use the correct term on here but I don't think it really matters. Quote Link to post
