I thought something may have been mentioned on here today as it’s armistice day …. anyway lest we forget ……

As much love, respect and appreciation as we all have for fallen soldiers its hard to stomach a society that demands that for 1 day of the year we act all patriotic and proud of the sacrifice men made

Mate, surely it’s about remembering, not posting on a forum/fb/insta etc.

No, I’m saying they shouldn’t be getting a special mention that other people don’t get !

How are they getting a special mention ?

The original point was that Gnash had seen British troops wearing turbans being remembered and didn’t like it.

I just said it’s not about Muslims and it’s about Sikhs etc who have always been remembered.

Don’t take this the wrong way but you lads are f***ing clueless on this.

You’re letting your own prejudice blind you to facts. Not like you.

We were more than happy for Indian troops to fight our war alongside us. And you don’t want to remember or respect them because they are non white.

Cant really even begin to argue with that, but f**k me I bet if you went back and spoke to those veterans or those folk who served alongside them..... they wouldn’t agree with you.

Dont take this the wrong way but pretending you dont understand what a person is saying in order to avoid the obvious is a feeble way of debating.

While we are discussing this....... in the name of light hearted history I’ll tell ye a story.

My grandfather spent some time in North Africa and the Middle East.... mainly hunting down  and ambushing Italians in the desert.

He had his own troops but also was told to find and work with some of the native tribes.

Somrwhere in North Africa he ended up with a load of black, Afro wearing camel jockeys - wilfs favourite folk ?

Anyway they didn’t know what they were called so affectionately labelled them fuzzy wuzzys.

Through various sign language etc they managed to convince these lads that rather than attacking them and stealing their weapons they should make a deal - they go and kill Italians and get paid a bounty. .... in arac (the local fire water).

Anyway they had to work out a way for the deaths to be proven so decided they would swap an Italians ear for some booze. It worked well for a while but they had to change it to a pair of ears as the sneaky b*****ds were cutting both off giving in one

- getting pissed and coming back with the other lot of ears froM the other side of the head ?

He said it was a bit surreal swapping necklaces of ears for grog...... but it worked ?

Iv saw that film too ?

Mate my family fought and died alongside weird native troops for a good few generations (obviously they didn’t all die).

I grew up with my Welsh valleys grandfather who could speak Hindi and Urdu. He led camel riders, Sikhs, Gurkhas, the Gon and lots of others. Fought in Europe, India, Burma, Africa, the middle East etx. His father fought  in those places and also afghan etc.

Those were just the times. Up until independence all male members of my dads side went to India aged about 14 and staid either until death or retirement. My grandfather came home to celebrate VE Day and then returned for two or three more years of war.

I just find it a bit hard to stomach that all of that action wasn’t worth a wank cos he led troops of the wrong colour ?

Just to round it off........ so you saw silhouettes of soldiers .... some had turbans so it was assumed it was only done to appease ‘the wogs’.

I would imagine that those silhouettes you saw were part of a display at Hampton court palace...... an art installation of over 100 silhouettes of soldiers ....,

Some of those silhouettes are wearing turbans because they represent Indian troops ...... there were 1700 Indian army troops encamped at Hampton court palace. Maybe that’s why ?
