SheepChaser 8,089
While I’m talking of climate cons - all of this carbon offsetting by big buisness is great ...... isn’t it ! https://www.google.co.uk/amp/s/www.spectator.co.uk/article/the-small-welsh-village-taking-on-the-tree-planting-industry/amp
WILF 47,481
I’m surrounded by forestry, the difference between forestry and natural woodland is obvious and shocking. I own a 3-4 acre natural wood, there is a diverse range of plants on the woodland floor, light can penetrate and generally everything does what it should. In amongst the forestry, nothing lives !…….it’s a lifeless desert on the ground. It wrecks the land. 3

Been getting paid to plant trees by local water company to try and clean up the water going out to sea in a local village. My auntie was saying they approached her and when she looked into it the water board get to keep all the carbon offset points. So the farmers will have to plant more trees to make them selves carbon neutral
WILF 47,481
While I don’t think farming is anywhere close to being the bad guy in all this, a move away from big industrial farming to an older and more natural method would be great for the eco system. However, this would involve having to charge the proper price for food which rather puts a spanner in the works of the government tax as much as possible way of doing things. Bottom line is, we are f***ing the job up no doubt about it but only because that’s the model forced on us. We don’t need 5 million more houses and everything that gos with it, we need 15 million less people ! f**k em off back, they come from some of the most resource rich places on earth so I’m sure they will be fine.

Gets placement wrong by 10cm and gets a £15,000 fine. Some incentive that. Oh and most of the trees planted for carbon stuff at pines - which take 20 years before they sequester any carbon and create and acidic atmosphere were f**k all lives. Did you know species rich grass land actually sequesters more carbon than trees ? More carbon than young trees I think. Mature forestry, no.

Yes sorry you are correct, it should have read for 20 years. So tree planting takes 20 years to get to the point where it is sequestering decent amounts of carbon.

Iirc they said it’s not cow farts that are the main problem but cow burps. And rather than bang the vegan drum they considered solutions including feeding seaweed based diets etc. It was refreshing.
