as I have posted before, it was brilliant era, shooting news was great reading, some real characters, great times being a young man and doing a bit. it changed to the countrymans weekly now that has folded, saw where it said merged into the shooting times, had a look at it, it's still the same old shooting times, not for mere peasants like me.

Spoke to Gary in the 90s, he got Spud in a swap for some coursing prints.

Never met Gary Hosker though used to enjoy his articles in what was the then shooting news and his day's in the Yorkshire dales wich back then was the rabbit catches nirvana though inadvertently his articles must have played a part in lads to go out and seek this Rabbiting nirvana for themselves and lads like me who did manage to find it have partly got Mr Hosker to thank for the memories that will stay with us for ever.

    they seen him and they weren’t impressed either.

Does it really matter wether Spud was a world beater or not. By the writings in the shooting news I think Gary was more than happy with the dog and that's what really matters to anyone who has hunted with lurchers.
