sandymere 8,263
Bit of advice when feeling a little weathered by age after a death; get yourself a pup, takes the mind forward to the future rather than dwelling back on the past You're only are old as the dogs in your kennel......................... 7 1 Quote Link to post

eastcoast 4,181
I have seen so many people give up the dogs for various reasons. In many cases it has been a good thing, some people should just not own dogs or God forbid try and work them. But for some people who have given up I think it was a mistake. The things that replaced the life that they previously had is not always an improvement. But it's all objective of course. I very much doubt that I will own another proper working terrier. The present one will be my last. Thank God. But cannot imagine a life without a terrier. Probably going down the fluffy Bedlington route next time. Easier to live with and going full circle as my family had them years ago. 5 Quote Link to post
OldPhil 5,802
I think the phrase 'giving up on the dogs' is often a bit of a misnomer... The act of moving on, to pastures new, is entirely a personal one... With that in mind,...I feel that I've taken more than enough hearts and souls,...indeed, I have been coming to this final conclusion, for the last ten years... I've not gone, vegan or anything like that ....I just feel that there has got to be more to my life than, 'dawgs and ferrets'... As my time on this earth nears its end,...I want to do some of the things that my manic obsession, has made me miss out on... I will always have a dog of sorts,...that is one thing, that I cannot live without,...but, my mind set has changed dramatically... Onwards and upwards,...I've served my time, I've done my bit,....and some more.... Enjoy your lives Brothers, go careful and stay safe,....all the best, OldPhil.
