What caliber for alligator

Recommended Posts

So was able to talk with a really accomplished alligator control guy this weekend at the LTA convention. We got to talking about shooting gators as they where swimming or sitting on the surface at distance ( at least 100 or so yards). Their usually snagged ,snared ect and shot with a .22lr but you get some they just don't wanna play that game. You have about a 1"-1.5" kill spot on a sideways floating gator and less then a inch or so of room before your hitting water. His caliber and bullet of choice really surprised me. But before I tell ya Im just curious what everyone reckons a professional gator trapper likes as far as caliber and bullet selection for this purpose .  Asked this in a few places and everyone seems to enjoy the guessing game so figured I would here too

The gat gun, every kid had one for shooting darts at the neighbours cat, the front of the barrel pushed in to cock it, it fired pellets, darts and for some random reason corks that you pushed onto the front, they were as weak as piss, but they would sting when your mate shot you with one and would give you a wicked bruise if they did it at point blank and the barrel hit you in the head ?
