Compact or sniper?

Recommended Posts

Evening gents,

After some sound advice from a top bloke (cheers @Dervburner) I've decided (when my variation finally gets back) on wildcat mk3 fac in  .22

My local shop has an offer on sniper version incl mod.

Just gauging folks thoughts on if the 700mm defeats purpose of bullpup or is the sniper preferable?

It'll be mainly for crows, (on deck & in trees) squirely nut basťards, and rats in sheds.

Sniper version is good in fac. More air efficient, more power potential, more shots per charge and the Bullpup design lends itself to long barrels more than other designs as the breech is right at the back of the gun. The barrel length is pretty much the overall length by design.?

I have the Wildcat Mk3 .22 fac Ben, love it matey but I went for the standard compact version as I do not like the Sniper at all, if I wanted a longer gun, I would have bought something else.    Mine is a joy to use at 30fpe down to around 12fpe is brilliant around the farm buildings as well as taking ferals over the barn roof,  I have only used it out to 55mt so far but I can say that both the rats & the feral pigeon wished I had not bought it ?.  They are light to carry at 2.6kg without scope and very quick handling which is useful out of the car window on a couple of our perms.

I cannot agree with you on this DB, the sniper is ungainly and front end unbalanced moving away from the point of a bullpup, buy a Dreamline or some other gun but the Wildcat is just perfect as a compact rifle which sits at your shoulder feeling so light, don't feckin buy it Ben PLEASE.

Sniper................................................................ stuff that bloody thing. ?

Just surpised you're only using 30fpe. Getting old? Kick a bit too much?

Only joking. Suprised though as thought the Mk3 was up to 79fpe in .22:

Not sure what power level the Wildcat could be taken up to but for me I don't want any more as I have the Impact at 60fpe and as for getting old................. true.

I have just finished a Pigeon, Pest Control job on a school site in conjunction with another Pest Control company, they specialise in netting.

Job finish was a cull, other guy had an early Wildcat, my word, how the PCP market has changed/improved since my Falcon of 20 years back, just the same, he didn't shoot any more than me and paid about 3 times the price for the gun!!!

I have to say my Falcon is reaching end of life, and even though I have just acquired a FAC Theoben Rapid, best part of 20 years old as well, I really need to look at the new breed of PCP.

Can't help cringing at the price though, circa 3x the price of my rimfires!!!!!

You are spot on Deker, my Tikka rimmy was less than half the price of my new Wildcat fac and a third of the price of my Impact fac,  must be mad ?

You may laugh but the ones who shoot these modern FAC air and rimfire will tell you the same .

my .22lr hardly gets used  at all when my FX guns are so accurate, even at 100 -150 yards

So which is best?
