ianrob 2
markieboi said: what do you guys do to make sure your hemp nets dont rott ect ect thanks mark Make sure you dry your net after use. Air dry it outside, but if the weather is unsuitable dty it in the house, but get it dry. Then hang it somewhere airy, I have a rack in my loft for all my nets. Unoficially as they don't reccomend it, you can soak your net in wood preserver, Cuprinol or the like. It makes the net smelly, but for night work you have the wind in your favour anyway. NB if it gets soil or blood on it, wash it, nothing rots a net faster. I recently left a purse net at a set for three weeks and it was rotten. Edited January 17, 2008 by ianrob Quote Link to post
Guest Bigbob
Ive also got my loft set out to dry my nets a cup hook screwed in every inch along the lenght of my loft but i usually just hang my nets up there in the summer time and fix any that need repairing . The best methord with hemp nets i find is to use 50 and hang them up and use another 50 letting the first lot dry out slowly then using each lot in turn Quote Link to post

R_Oldroyd 17
Hi Heres my top tip, If you wear the same T shirt all the time it soon gets f*****d, but it you only wear the same T shirt now and a aqain it will last for ages. I uses my hemp nets in rings of 10, forty to a bag. once clean and dry they are put into a bag. I rotate several bags of nets and at the end of the season re dip and repair nets as required. This way they last a long time. regards Roger P.S If you use hemp nets then you had better get it into your head that nets will get damaged over time especially if you use them alot. Unfortunately client don't see these costs, and you can only price for time on site. When you finish on site I usually have to spent a considerable amount of time sorting the nets for the next session/job amd you can't price for that. Quote Link to post
Crow 1
Some people get a bit bogged down with the 'hemp needs so much looking after' attitude. Treat your nets like your ferrets - look after them! There's no need to preserve them with anything, just make sure you hang them up to dry properly. If you're out alot then rotate your nets. And, don't leave then hanging in a window in direct sunlight either! Hang them in an airy, dry place and give them time to dry and you'll be ok. Hemp will last longer than most peoples interest in ferreting if it's looked after Edited January 18, 2008 by Crow Quote Link to post
