Hunting Dachshund 0
hi all im quite new to the forum found the picture of a pharoh hound nick named rabbiting dog wondered if anyone got one how good are they I hunt Cottontail rabbits with European dachshunds and 2 pharaoh hounds here in North Carolina, USA. These rabbits generally stay above ground (unlike European rabbits). Dachshunds flush rabbits out of briars, pharaohs grab and kill them. Pharaohs are part scent-, part sighthounds, which means that they use their nose more than the true sighthounds such as greyhounds. They are quite agile and sturdier built, but like sighthounds they demand quite a bit of exercise (mine get stir crazy at home if they are not run regularly). Like someone already said, they are noisy. They bark on sight (unlike sighthounds). In the country of origin -Malta- they are called "Kelb tal-Fenek" or rabbit dog and are used for rabbit hunting with ferrets. The ferrets have a bell around their neck. Pharaohs hear the noise under ground and know when the rabbit is coming out. Same principle as with my hunt, but ferrets flush rabbits out of holes, pharaohs catch rabbits. Quote Link to post
