I think most novice lurcher men learn more off their first dog than a hundred books . We learn from mistakes.  Well we should do . My first was a collie, grey x whippet.  Caught some gear . But missed loads down to my inexperience.  My advice is wait until something catches you eye , rear it like any of your other dogs but implementing field work training.  Maybe get someone local to oblige a day or 2 out . Point you in right direction.  Off you go . Best a luck

I hardly ever did this once I knew he would do it. On one occasion that i was going to do it whilst I was taping the camera to the railing and taking no notice of Jago I heard a splash and the bugger had taken a header of that wall just because he wanted to. He did it with no pressure from me for a retrieve. Force would soon take the enthusiasm away. I will but pressure on a dog if I need to but never for this. When he knew a dive was on he couldnt wait to go.

How is it then that decent lurcher owners want collie.deerhound and whippet in the mix,and none of them want the smell of bullshit in the pedigree.I know of a few that want a deerhoundy /collie in the mix to rescue what the bull lacks,pace,nous and minerals,because the vast majority of bull bred lurchers and the owners lack all 3

I think for a all round lurcher a good coursing dog crossed with a good bull greyhound bred right you won’t go far wrong this young bitch pup I’m bringing on should hopefully make a decent all round animal atb longers01
