Dervburner 2,549
As I’d recently had a good few squirrels in the traps and shot a fair few more recently I got around to setting a feeder up on Monday. I didn’t really know what to expect, but when I checked it on Wednesday the hopper was half way down. I topped it up and checked it again on Thursday, half way down again. This looked promising as it usually takes about a week before they’re on it proper. Well, as the weather was looking ok for Friday, I thought I’d try this window of opportunity as the weekend looks poor to say the least. Anyway, as I arrived with my pop up hide there was a squirrel already onboard filling it’s face with peanuts. I’d already set up the impact with jsb rs 13.4 grain pellets running at 910-920fps (25ft lb) as it was a bit breezy I thought that even though I was only shooting at twenty five yards I’d have an advantage in the breeze over my 12ft lb .177, I was shooting in a small goyle anyway, so the wind wasn’t too bad as it turned out. When I got settled in it wasn’t long before the fun began. The first three in the first ten minutes, then a steady flow for the next hour and a half. When I checked the feeder as I cleared up, it was all but empty. I’ve refilled with what peanuts I had in the truck and I’ll check again on Sunday to see if there’s been much activity. 8 Quote Link to post

Mine feed on hazel, beech and chestnuts . Taste between lamb and duck . I normally roast whole with salt , pepper and olive oil , or cut the back legs of , simmer for 15-20 minutes then finish of in oven One of the best wild meat 2 Quote Link to post
Sausagedog 7,381
They are OK. But difficult to skin. I've tried all the methods. I eventually settled on placing a grenade up their vent. That peels them a treat. Quote Link to post
