I may live to regret this but i hope not. If it helps you, you are welcome to come over here (south of Preston) and i will take you to one of my places. I will run through the safety aspects and set up some hardox fox targets for you to practise on. I will make available for you .22 lr, .17hmr, .204, .243 and 30/06. If you listen and prove to be safe you would be welcome back, if you aren't you will be going back to yorkshire quicker than you came followed by a letter to the West Yorks firearms dept telling them you aren't fit. So the offer is there if you want it, oh, and don't turn up in Burberry gear!

That's a generous offer , well done. ?

Morning all

Well it looks like my application is going in the right direction ?.  I have just received a call from the FEO who wants to arrange a home visit, BUT the only sticking point is that he has stipulated that I would need a mentor to accompany me for a couple of outings before he visits as I don’t have any previous experience of firearms in the field ( only sub 12 fpe air rifles) and quite rightly wants to make sure that I can be trusted and handle firearms safely and responsibly.

The FEO has asked that my mentor have experience of .17HMR and .223.

I would be very grateful if there is someone who would be willing to help out and accompany me for a couple of trips on my permission which is in Bradford,West Yorkshire, however i am quite willing to travel to you if necessary, I will add that I’m more than happy to pay any expenses and would throw in a few beer tokens too ?.

Please feel free to message me if you prefer.

Many thanks in advance, thanks also to all the people who have given their advice and suggestions.

I thought the Burberry cap was customary attire for the .223 ?

@ianmThanks very much indeed, that really is a generous offer and greatly appreciated.

I also posted on another forum yesterday and have spoken with an FAC holder who lives literally a stones throw from my permission so hopefully I may be sorted, however, if for any reason this doesn’t happen and your offer still stands then I would be very grateful.

Once again, thanks very much for your kind and generous offer.

Both of my FAC air will be far more accurate than .22 lr even at 100+ yards . At 150 yards I put 3 shots in a size of a penny . Witness by my shooting partner

Air is more accurate no doubt. But I doubt the police are concered about pin point accuracy as much as the effect on target. If you can hit a balloon at 100yds, you could, if a crazed individual, hit a human head. Being able to shoot the centre out of a penny is of no consequence in those circumstances. FAC air is certainly dangerous but personally I still think that under 100ftlbs it's very similar to a shotgun in range and danger, less so close up, and at 150ft lbs, whilst it increases range over a shotty by reaching out to maybe around 150yds, it certainly doesn't have high levels of energy at those ranges.

Again I'd say I see no sense in granting people permission to obtain and posses a shotgun, but denying them an air rifle on SGC. The only point I start to see a danger in air rifles above what is reasonable on an SGC is when you start to get into the large calibres ie. .45, .50 and above and the high pressure systems - I'm going to say here 150ft lbs and above although I think many of the large calibre systems actually jump to around 300ft lbs and above with very little in between those figures. Either way, large calibre at very high pressure (Over 150ft lbs) = rimfire or even CF equivalent at moderate ranges, and there's little doubt they deserve to be FAC.
