We used to thin out the cocks at the end of the season because if you have too many they stress the hens out fighting over them in the spring. Later in the year, if your incubating your own, a few birds are caught up and kept in a laying pen to provide eggs for net years stock. Hope that helped
Guest SJM
Birds that dodge the guns if left to do their own thing, will breed and establish a colony in the wild

Just before last Christmas I was walking along a very long field, my trusty old side by side under my arm, it was a very nice day and I was really enjoying the peace and solitude when a cock pheasant got up just a few feet in front of me and I'm embarased to say it startled me and I was too late to take the shot The next bugger that day was'nt so lucky though

MikeTheDog 153
Cocks get shot at on the beaters cock day, some get hit ...A lot of shoots round up the hens and sell them back to the breeders for next years poults
outshooting 0
we have a cock day so hopefuly most of them will be shot, but some do escape so we try to catch as many as we can so they dont stress the new poults when they arrive. All the hens are left do as they wish
Guest little_lloyd
No need to worry here,,there more hens than cock birds Infact the hens are much much bigger in numbers than the cocks
