Are you in a detecting club Arry or just go it alone, my sheep farmer mate Mosh is out all the time, he’s joined a group to get to go on a lot of different land, he’s found all sorts, he still loves a bit of hawking though. I sometimes take him up to my shoot when I’m feeding birds, he’s found a few old coins and military buttons

No mate not in a club. I know few farmers so just mooch around doing it myself. I like it that way, I know a chap that runs a club and they travel to Somerset from Devon. I'm happy some land I can go on is only about Half a mile from home.

Only been doing it about 18 months and just upgraded to a equinox 800 from a Vanquish 540 which is a excellent machine for a first detector.

Had these two last week and found a £200 toolbox for a farmer that they managed to plough in. More brownie points.

That top one is a cracker, every Christmas I get my mate a different finds identification book, he found a WW1 revolver a couple of months ago when he was out with the group so had to hand it in, he’s got other things that he’s kept that he’s found when out on his own

Every body to their own mate I find it very addictive and a lot like fishing in a way never knowing what going to turn up. Helps keep me active as I'm knocking on now. Given up the guns now but still fish, ferret, forage fungi along with gardening.

Get some permission mate

I spoke to them today, I wasn’t going to bother with them been city folk, I was surprised when they said, I can shoot, rabbits, foxes and deer, so I’m having the rabbits and foxes and I’ve passed the deer onto a lad I know who has just lost a bit of his stalking land, just goes to show you should never judge someone by what you think they are ?
