Busy old day today, started off with with rerouting the back side roof water through the shed to go into the front because it’s blocked under the floor and I can’t think of another way without cutting the floor in the stables, I just hope one will take all the water, it’s a big shed

then second pour of concrete before taking what was left to my mates to do his chicken shed

YouTube mostly ( lol ) not strictly true, I’ve always worked with loads of different people in the building trades even when I was a mechanic so you just pick things up and I think I just blag it a lot, some jobs I’ll just have a go until I get it right

Your on the wrong side of the railway, maintenance, I’ve been on both maintenance and operations, if I told you what I took home annually as a Mobile Operations Manager you would question yourself as to what on earth am I doing all this graft for in shit weather and on nights, make it your mission to look at the vacancies everyday and become a Mom you won’t look back as soon as I got a job in ops I was respected more, I tripled my wages and if your smart you can even grab a kip as long as you respond immediately on nights.

if you worked down here and requested to come off nights unless you had a valid medical reason they would just laugh at you and tell you to get on with it.

You know as well as I do and Bakerboy another long time rail worker it comes with the territory the railway is nights when everyone’s tucked up in bed.

Mate I tuck a pay cut to get on board with NWR. I was off track for ten years doing track civils, I'd just had enough of working away and when I saw this local job I took it. The graft, the weather, they don't bother me, I just detest night shifts, I'd rather do a 9 hour day shift than a night shift that's half the time. Lol

There's different avenues I could try and take, SSOW planning, lift planning, etc, but it's dropping on a job when they become available. As I said, in our department there's patrollers that just do days, Mon-Thur and a Sunday when they're rostered that weekend. I'm going to have a word with the section manager and see if I can stick on days. Night shifts are bad for your health as they are, only getting 2-3 hours kip a day is even worse. Lol
