hideandshoot 13
Hi All, I'm part of a small DIY shoot, and like many shoots we normally release 2 or 3 white pheasants with a £50 penalty charge for onyone who accidentially shoots one. This seems a waste of perfectly good birds especially as we only release 300-400, and no one has shot a white bird for several years now. In fact the last one which ended up in the bag was pegged by a spanniel. I'm thinking of making this a little more interesting this season which made me vaguely recall a 'Reader's Letter' in Shooting Times a number of years ago, whereby a Reader shared the rules of his syndicate. I can't remember exactly but it was something along the lines of - If a white pheasant flies over you you have to take a shot. If you don't see it or fail to take a shot for whatever reason you pay the syndicate (or designated charity) £20. If you bring it down you collect a bounty (say £10 off every shooter) but if you take a shot and miss you pay the syndicate £40, or maybe £20 per shot. If you're the second Gun in the line to take a shot the same applies, and so on. I think there was also something about pricking it. Has anyone come across any rules which make the whole 'white bird thing' a little more fun than the standard penalty charge. Or do you have any twists on the above? FOXHUNTER 5,021
Better off just culling them all as they dont like flying, better off getting rid of them . Should pay guns to shoot them

The banter on our shoot for a gun too tight to take a shot at a bird for the sake of £50 would be unbearable. Its hardly going to break the bank is it? Tell them it's £50 quid if you hit it, £75 if you miss it and £150 if they ignore it.

ditchman 2,740
errr correct me if im wrong ....if you shot a white pheasant its notthe fine you will worry about its the kick up the arse and mouthful of invective you will recieve from the keeper.........................they are not there for fun......they are marker birds......a white pheasant with released birds are alot easier to see than the released birds.....it saves alot of work for the keeper in findingthe birds the evening before a shoot ...so he can dog them in for you to have a gooddrive the next day.....
