apple mass surveilance

The idea of two Californian nerds dressed in tweed watching videos or conversations from my cloud which consist of

a ) my kids causing carnage in primark or some other town centre as I stand by aghast at the fruit of my loins knowing I will have this for at least the next ten years

b) my misses whinging about how little clothes she has or how we really need this latest white gold faux fur lined throw for the couch and how she’s seething I haven’t yet painted the patio

c ) me sending di caprio memes in answer to most questions I get on what’s app or links to nonsense videos on you tube

quite frankly doesn’t fill me with terror

Reckon that horse has long since bolted. Think it was posted on here previously, but your phone can actually listen to you talking, and bombard with sh!t off the back of what you say. As been said, if you haven’t anything to hide, then you’ve nothing to fear. If you have got something to hide, then don’t do it on a phone.

Or better still, buy a basic bag of shit if you're scared of incriminating yourself. ?

I'm not sure when or if they changed their decision on that but Apple opposed that in quite a famous case only  a few years back when the FBI were wanting to access a terrorists phone.

It can but they're going to put software on it to specifically look for things

Okay, so I watched a bit of the video. I still don’t get what the fuss is about. Ever since I had a phone, I’ve never looked upon it as being ‘secure’. Someone really wants access to what’s on it, I haven’t the technical nouse to stop them. As for the video, the intention is (apparently) to catch people looking at, and swapping filth involving minors. The coppers are forever telling us they have nothing like the resources required to even make a dent in the problem, and implore the tech companies for help. So isn’t this a positive step? And if by Apple doing this I’ll get even more targeted marketing, well I hardly think I’d notice. Big brother is now watching our every move, and here to stay I’m afraid. And there’s no going back now so we’re going to have to learn to live with it.

Well china has all their phone data kept in government owned databases. Do you want that?

Did you know that as long as there is line of sight, your GPS on Google maps will still work?

As for mining data off phones, you gave them permission to.

FB has been listening for keywords/accounts in close proximity for years. I.e. you walk into a bar and see someone you know. You're not FB friends but you have connections in common. You will see a friend suggestion for that person in the next 24hrs ;)

Thats because it saves the maps through cache and GPS doesn't require data.

This isn't about data mining, its active surveillance.

It's the same thing. I can actively track you through data. I don't need to listen in, in real time. You are being watch first and foremost by AI.
