Until recently my only experience of Gsp and GWP’s were out of control, wild , untrained specimens that turned up on shoot days in the beating line or owned by guns . They were poor advocates for their breed . Since then I’ve witnessed them in their proper environment, hunting, setting, flushing and retrieving on woodcock and pheasant . And they were a joy to watch and have changed my opinion of the breed. For that kind of shooting, they have no equal. I also believe that they make excellent deer dogs here in the uk . But then most steady dogs with a nose will find a shot deer . A friend of mine uses a Border terrier that I bred for this purpose , and she has added many deer that would have otherwise been lost to the chiller . 1 Quote Link to post
