FAC is different to SGC, some need to be members of rifle clubs, others who have land need calibre suitability for that land, if they are granted some have closed tickets, some need to prove extra experience I.e mentoring, especially when you move onto centrefire, it’s a lot more hoops to jump through and can show a person suitability to possess a firearm, yet for a shotgun all you have to say is you want to go and bust a few clays and if you pass the limited checks, away you go, but you’ll know this from when you got yours

its just been on the radio that the home secretary is changing the guidance, that firearms licensing will now have to check a persons social media, this was only a recommendation before and I bet 99% didn’t do it, it may not stop this sort of thing from happening again but if it stops one idiot from possessing a shotgun, that can only be a good thing

i knew of a lad who had a shotgun and was a fully paid up member of the EDL, now if the police had looked at his social media I doubt they would of deemed him suitable to hold a SGC, I’m not saying he would of used it in anger but some peoples views don’t lend themselves to the possession of firearms

Like I said good reason and an extra witness. Nothing that would have prevented something like this. Suitability of land is simply to ensure stray bullets don't exit the boundaries. Tying a gun to a piece of land still doesn't stop the owner going crazy.

I think for once the Home Office got the recommendations right rather than going over the top and that is to check social media for signs of worrying posts. I also think the Police have some explaining to do, however, not for the return of the gun after an assault - anyone can end up in a fight and it's not necessarily their fault eg getting jumped on an night out. That's where I find this whole notion of you should never break even the smallest law wrong. eg get caught speeding and it indicates you have no respect for authority. It doesn't - minor infractions such as a speeding offence shouldn't count against you. What the Police need to concentrate on is getting the major warning signs right rather than trying to create an ownership of nuns. People with persistent fights, recent history of violence, always in trouble or getting reported, media posts, extremist groups etc is where the danger lies. Not Joe Bloggs doing 35 in a 40. Where alarm bells should be ringing is if there's a history of it, or as reported here if you believe some of the media, where members of the family are saying the guy is ill and not fit. That's what the Police should be listening to. If the guys own family is possibly saying he's mentally ill and unfit, you have to take notice and investigate.

As they were saying on the news. SGC holders in Britain have been around half a million since the last mass shooting in 2010. Half a million people with legally held shotguns and none of them went on

We all know how strict it is but for lefty wet wankérs, this type of utter tragedy (a 3yr old ffs you utter evil cunť!!) just gives them more ammo (no pun) to try tighten our nuts even more

Totally agree , police incompetence. The guy had his SGC revoked because of violence yet they returned it to him......I cannot understand this at all.

It’s not as straight forward as this anymore, when I got mine ( a long time ago ) it was that simple, 2 references  and land to shot on, no closed tickets, just pay for it, police check and they would maybe ring one of your references and away you go, I don’t have a problem with the application for FAC what bothers me is the application for SGC, purely by chance I was talking to someone today from firearms ( outside of their work about helping a young lad out ) inevitably we chatted about this terrible event and the first thing they said was it’s going to have to be like getting a FAC when you apply for a SGC, it’s easy for me to sit here and say that it shouldn’t be this easy to own a shotgun, because I have mine and I know no matter what they do they will never stop all the idiots, but is it right that someone with no experience of shotguns can decide one day “ I want one “ put in a grant form and with limited checks and no experience be given a shotgun, I’ve come across a few people that think it’s their right to have a gun, instead of a privilege

Yeah that's pretty bad, I don't have news so don't have access to the details.

When you here people giving some kids at the park a good hiding , the only thing they are guilty of is not having any self restraint. Because there are some f@cking horrible teenagers out there,  who definitely need to be taught a good old fashioned lesson on manners . Of course it will lose you your ticket and perhaps your liberty . Maybe that’s what is wrong with society? Nowadays it’s called “ child abuse  “ but in Victorian times it was just teaching your kids  a bit of manners . Bring back corporal punishment!!!  Does this have any relevance to this case , probably not , but I’m bored , sat watching poults walk back along hedgerows. Sorry, rant over .
