First smalleye of the year

Me and my mate went down a local rock mark, cracking evening just to get out the house. Night started with a few small eels followed by a few dogs. I had a little rattle and a bit of slack, tightened the slack and put it back down. After a few small rattles I thought I better get this bait in before the b*****d eel rapes my rig. Said to my mate, think it's a dogfish with a bit of spirit and then it started to scrap a bit better. Mate climbed down and fish was still quite deep until the very edge when this little male popped out. Only went 6lb 13 oz but I was still pleased to catch the target species as I had said to Arry only a few hours before I was quite confident tonight.
