Gilbey 1,434
Doesn't work, they get injuries, old etc at some point your going to have to get a pup. And if the old one lives to a good age you'll end up with three But a saluki type or collie type for the same reasons Quote Link to post
poxon 5,731
I’d say my choice would be what I’ve got now I only have one dog for everything I do there’s better dogs out there for individual jobs but I use a collie greyhound beddy greyhound x I think this cross is very adaptable an underrated in modern times They can ferret with or without nets, effective mooching dogs, work to gun or catty, work the lamp, race, gun dog trial, obedience trial, train an get registered as assistant dogs, get in the show ring an do well if that’s your thing, pick up on a shoot……they can be just used there tackle anything there not fussy! There no specialist dog though there like the Swiss Army knife of Lurchers there get you by but better tools for the job if it’s a individual job but think there a good all rounder if bred right Edited July 14, 2021 by poxon . 16 Quote Link to post

LamperNM 117
I’d go with something that can adapt to abit of everything.. most importantly something that can put plenty of rabbits in the bag for me it’s a must have where I live and work the dogs they have to be quick off the mark and nimble and able to cope with different types of terrain from grass paddocks to moorland terrain.. stone wall country. (Sometimes easy rabbits) if you don’t have one that can up a gear when it’s needed. A collie blooded lurcher suits me.. or a deerhound lurcher type we need something that can do atleast 3 nights a week so something with a good recovery rate,! As you say only one dog that would be a must that it’s able to keep up with a few long hard nights in a week.. Some nights one after the other., people will have different preferences or methods to what we do.. I’m talking lamping and nothing else just lamping. And a dog that can take anything in the light would be my choice if just the one animal for the job 1 Quote Link to post
