Made In The USSR, The Green Machine

Recommended Posts

Fancied trying my luckk at restoring an air rifle to the same Standards as BigMac97kt (long shot I know lol) One of Phillpot’s mates had given me old Russian rifle to practice on before I attempted my HW35,

So I spent the best part of a week stripping the old varnish and the green paint off the whole rifle, and sanding away all the roughness, and uncovered some amazing grains.

Tonight I popped down to Jimmy’s, as he has a bench grinder and to clean up all the parts of the action, which was a lot easier in my head I might add.

So now it’s been polished and just waiting on me buying a blueing kit, Jimmy’s lent me some grease for when the time comes to put it back together, and the leather piston seal needs some TLC(if anyone has any suggestions for this I’d greatly appreciate it)

And when I find the free time I’ll start to oil the stock and get it perfect, I’m sure Jimmy had fun sending me back to the grinder to sort out missed spots?

It had better be right

Or I'm taking the 35 off you and I'll do it my self

The pic with the wet patch is how the stock will look when oiled

This is an old Russian rifle

Not many around has a split in the stock and to be honest I fixed it

But JayB0 did the rest I told him what to do and showed him on the grinder (wire wheel)

But I just sat and sent him back when it was not right

When it comes to the Bluing it's all in the prep it has to be right

Polished the piston, the spring, spring guide,

Air chamber barrel and bits and bobs

He is getting there lol

No Jason it's not as easy as it is in your head son lol

I should explain, this rifle, like a number of others have been taken to our village tip, my pal runs the site so if one comes in, it goes on his refurb list.. This was painted green as the first colour for a cammo job for his son who then changedd his mind and has sat in the shed for a couple of years until now so it will be nice to see how it turns out.
