What's everyone's preferred method of cooking when out and about ? I do like cooking on open fire or bush box were I can, you just can't beat it. But if up in the mountains and using a boil in bag meal,  I will just use a jetboil minimo. Also have a Soto Windmaster for gas canister cooking. But I do really like alcohol stoves for there simplicity.  A trianga or similar or home made affair.  What's everyone using ?

If you can get the isobutane rather than regular they do much better in the cold Dan. Regularly use them down to around minus 10 here.

Really enjoyed it last night. Was hard work with the big pack on. Never weighed it but it was heavy with all the gear, food and at least 4 ltrs of ltrs of water and cider. It's straight uphill almost from the too.. a really long steep climb to get the ticker going. Was had finding a pitch along the southern edge that was big enough for 2 tents and wasn't deep heather, boggy or sloping and we also needed shelter from the wind.. it was very windy. Said 25 mph on forecast but seemed more than that at 2000 ft up! And the visibility was poor as the cloud was down. Eventually found a very little spot that was just big enough. Had a cracking night. Burgers and cider and a right laugh. A lovely morning. Wind had totally died off.. Still a bit cloudy but cleared now and again to give us some nice views. Was a nice learning curve. Roll on net time.?

Heading up into the clouds..

Few more from this morning.

My mate isn't a big drinker and 4 strong cans of cider pretty much wiped him out last night. He was feeling it this morning!! Lol..

I doubled up on the porridge for for breakfast. Tipped one pot into another and taped it up for a more realistic sized portion. Enjoyed it.

Quality @Bush Rummager, great to see you out and about wild camping, it’s not everyone’s cuppa tea so hope it’s lived up to expectations for you and your mate… I’m laughing with regards to pack weight as we’ve all been there, it’s not too bad from the house to the car or a flat couple miles but when the inclines start you sharp know you’re carrying some weight - like anything though, the more regular you get out on the hills/mountains and with the weight it does get easier…

Looks and sounds like you’ve put a canny hike and effort into your first camp so fair play, most people only venture 1/2 hour or so away from the car to be on the safe side incase they need to bail…

Walking into clag ain’t no fun as little to no views to appreciate for your work and can be murder for causing condensation in the tent, also makes sitting out quite miserable as always feels damp but just part and parcel of it all and then like you’ve done, you can wake up to blue skies and stunning views of the weather gods are on your side…

Cracking photos and marvellous effort, got me itching to get out myself this week…

Look forward to seeing the next ?

Thanks matey! Yes.. we've still got our 'L' plates.. and will have for a while I should imagine. Learning all the time though. First things I'd do to go lighter is take a dehydrated meal and filter some water from up there. Just carry a bottle for the hike out.

Got the walk up here and the elevation graph.. that climb though!!?

  • 2 weeks later...

Got another camp in Friday night with Tackleberry. Got held up in traffic due to an accident in town which cost us a good hour and a half. Got parked up, packs on a set off at a right pace for 5 and a half mile to the area I had in mind. All nice and flat though this time. Found a cracking spot in a wood by the river as planned.. later than ideal but still OK for daylight.

Hi guys , bit of a long shot , but I’m due to imminently move to the plains of my people and have heard rumours of a firemonger of weapons ??
He is said to be a purveyor of the uks finest steel tomohawks and one of the last true dwarf weapon masters
if anyone can point me in the right direction , I’d be greatly pleased

I want to purchase a pair of boots for the colder weather, I do a lot of walking, and some trekking about the hillsides and trails. I do not want "winter boots" but rather boots that would be suitable for a cold day, but would work with layers of socks rather than thick heavy boots. Several people have told me Meindl is an excellent brand, and that is great, but what kind ? Hiking ? Walking ? Do they make them that they would serve the purpose mentioned above ? Any specifics to look for in a boot for this purpose ?
      Thank you in advance,
      Lynn

Sorry gentlemen to bother you, but I have come to my wits end. My neighbour across the way lets her dog roam as it please when it comes to shitting and urination, she is too lazy to actually take the dog out herself. He seems to have taken to my property and a certain area just under my bedroom window. I do not want to hurt the dog for the sake of her ignorance, but I do very much need to stop him from doing it any longer. The grass and  the shrubs are dying and turning brown and the flowers are just rank with smell that floats up through my bedroom window.
He is a VERY OVERWEIGHT beagle and leaves behind some damn good deposits.
I am wondering short of doing something stupid, what can I do to deter the dog from that area or any patches of garden I have? I plan to go to the council about the problem, and lay some of it on the town manager who is an acquaintance of mine, but in the meantime, any tricks out there to make my flowers and bushes unsavoury.
      Thank you in advance,
      Lynn
