I look like putting my first cross back to whippet, could well choose a smooth one if she throws any. 2 Quote Link to post

Our best Sheepdogs all had that Slape coat, and I've bred a few lurchers with such a pelt. We always called our Welsh herders, Bare-Skinned, as opposed to the normal Border Collie coat... The Kelpie and the ACD have a similar style of short coat... Edited July 4, 2021 by OldPhil 1 Quote Link to post

You struggle to see the skin when you try and part the hairs with the slape coats...skin like Kevlar underneath lol 1 1 Quote Link to post

My pup is years of crossing f1 Beddy whippets together the litters would throw few pups like mine with a in between coat mixture of broken and short. Quote Link to post
fred90 3,208
have had quite a few over the years both generation bred and genuine first cross. my experience has been first cross seem to be more stubborn but a better nose. prefered generation bred temperament. 2 Quote Link to post

I have always favoured a rough coat believing it more weatherproof. then a chap pointed out a good thick smooth coat is better. he didn't mean like a whippet he said like the smooth collie coat. I think he had a point. Depends on the type of coat it’s got to be right.. I know exactly what he means as some types can hold onto the water Quote Link to post

We had 3 dogs this night a saluki lurcher type and a collie lurcher.. the wind and rain was on our side and the other two dogs not the whippets.. it really knocked the stuffing out the little bitch she had a few runs no kills.. before I had to carry her back to car baring in mind this was a fresh dog young and fit.. I’ve never favoured them since this night thin skinned fragile shivering things.. probably start something here but that’s my opinion 1 Quote Link to post

That bedlington blood just puts something to them and it certainly adds abit of fire to them best of luck Quote Link to post
