? Taken a lot of rabbits over the last 60 years with various working dogs,....but, under the spotlight,..I would think that 78 with my Sadie , back in the 1980's would be the most that I've grassed in

try again.. 63 taken the night before ....took this pic before we set off ferreting

It's not allways about numbers. Not to long ago, I was lucky enough to be invited to the Cairngorms for a weekend, by Northernlite and Taysider. We had a fantastic time, but one naysayer moc

If at first you don't succeed give up ?

Charts comes to the rescue ??

I look on him as a slightly wayward son.

Correct his spelling, turn his pics round, feed him a burger now and again, and he's not a bad lad ?

Here is 96 plump and juicy rabbits,..  captured with dogs and ferrets, (no nets used) ..

To be honest, TOMO caught a fair number of them on his own..

I just sat on a stone wall,.... and as befits an elderly gent, quietly watched,.. the world go by?

on a more serious note, I know that picture of Phil and the lads isn't that long ago, when you look at the dire state of the rabbit population in many places up and down the country, you wouldn't think a day like that would be possible.

Aye, you are 100% correct Fred?

There ARE places in the UK where good quantities of conies could be taken,. .but,.. those big bag days, are possibly destined to be,.. a thing of the past...?

My own feelings are that I have personally killed 'more than enough ' quarry ..

This is why, we did not hit the 100 rabbit day on that recent foray,....the truth is, the rabbits were available , but I confess to not playing my part and assisting the other lads very much...I'm sure my behaviour was noted..?

I used to be a relentless hunter, and no amount of rabbits, hares or deer was ever enough...

I was obsessed....?

But,.. not any more....?

If you had good dogs anything was possible, but a lot of dogs were NEVER up to the job.

did you get dogs that simply had enough due to sheer numbers?

I found some dogs gave up quickly and started playing silly beggars, yet other would give in out of tiredness,

some would keep going till they dropped, these dogs were often run till they died or were totaly blown out. others would run hard and only stop when you asked them, if trained and brought on correctly these were the massive bag dogs.

The best dog I ever had was great on rabbits, even in the small midland fields, yet when I got him on foxes he totally ignored rabbits for years. when I moved and stopped foxing, he took to rabbits again and amassed a fantastic tally in his life.
